From their studio in Porto, Portugal K O N J U N T O co-founded by artist David Barnes and leather craft specialist Esther Harris, apply their synergy of skills to create modular leather artworks that transform interior spaces through traditional craftsmanship, unique textures and contemporary aesthetics.

Three distinctive modular patterns

Each artwork begins with a unique geometric pattern developed using traditional techniques by artist David Barnes. Designed to be modular, each pattern cleverly fits together requiring no stitching or glue in their construction while offering a distinctive visual language and allowing the creation of work to almost any scale.
The AXIS pattern is based on a semi-regular grid of hexagons and triangles, the final design incorporates octagonal tiles in a hexagonal grid. The octagonal tiles meet, and overlap at the mid-point of each underlying hexagon combining movement and visual dynamism.

This pattern takes a square grid and forms curves out of the corners to create perfect circles when four individual pieces are connected to form a square. Inspired by repetition, connection, and flow, the ORBIS pattern allows for numerous interpretations of pattern, scale and form.

Each rectangular tile evolves from an underlying grid of circles. Using the same radius in a compass the original circle can be divided into six radial 'petals'. By expanding this design and drawing straight lines between intersections, the rectangular shape can be traced. To give the final design a smoother flow, the corners of each rectangle were rounded off to produce petal like overlaps.
